Our blood-test service at Summertown is led by pharmacist Uthmaan Abbasi (GPhC registration 2237035). Every result is explained by a registered pharmacist, and this page was reviewed by the pharmacy team in October 2026.
Your sample is run on a professional point-of-care analyser in the consultation room and never leaves the building. Our team is trained on the analyser by its supplier, and we follow the manufacturer’s checks before testing.
MediPill is an independent, family-run Oxford pharmacy with four branches and more than 300 Google reviews. Blood testing is at Summertown.
Every test is £39, and that is the whole price. There is no appointment fee, no sample-collection fee and nothing to pay for the pharmacist’s explanation. Having more than one test means £39 for each.
Yes, please book online – it takes about a minute and lets you choose your test and a time at our Summertown branch, with appointments from Tuesday 27 October. Cortisol has to be a morning slot, before 10am.
No. These are private tests you can choose for yourself. We will tell you honestly if we think a test will not help you, and point you to your GP when that is the better route.
No. None of the thirteen tests needs fasting, including cholesterol and HbA1c. The only timing rules are progesterone (about seven days before your period is due) and cortisol (before 10am).
The analyser is a professional point-of-care device, and for these tests a finger-prick result is a reliable screening measure. It is not identical to a hospital laboratory result, so any result that is out of range or would change your treatment is confirmed with a lab test through your GP. We will never tell you a number is a diagnosis.
GPs will usually take a point-of-care result as a reason to arrange their own laboratory test rather than treat from it directly. That is how it should work. We give you a printed result and, where needed, a letter that makes the GP’s next step easy.
The pharmacist will explain what the number does and does not mean, what might have affected it (a recent cold, a supplement, the time of day) and whether it needs following up. If it does, you leave with a GP letter. A result that needs urgent attention is acted on the same day.
Yes. The service is for adults aged 18 and over. If you look under 25 we may ask for ID.
Completely. The test is done in our consultation room, the result is given to you alone, and nothing is said at the counter. A positive result means contacting your GP or self-referring to a midwife; we can also talk through contraception, which is always free at MediPill.
Start with the question you want answered, using the groups above. If you are tired, ferritin, folate and vitamin D together is the usual starting point. If you are not sure, ask the pharmacist or call Summertown on 01865 558 348 – advice is free and we will not sell you a test you do not need.
Summertown only for now (227 Banbury Road, OX2 7HQ). Customers of our Botley, Headington and Deddington branches are welcome to book there.
